7th Grad​e Band

7th & 8th Grade Holiday Concert

 When: Thursday, December 16th
Location: High School Cafetorium
Performance Time: 7:30pm
Student Meeting Time: 7:00pm in the High School Band Room

*Band families are asked to contribute one baked item to the bake sale fundraiser that will be held before and after the concert

Concert Uniform
Girls: White dress shirt, black skirt (length below the knee) or black dress pants, black nylons (with skirt) or black socks (with pants), black dress shoes
Boys: White long sleeve dress shirt, black dress pants, black socks, black dress shoes

Required Materials

Standard of Excellence Book 2 - Each student must have their own copy by Friday, Sept. 10th 

Woodwinds - 1 Box of VanDoren Reeds

Brass - Valve oil & slide grease

Percussion - Minimum Requirement – 1 pair of drum sticks, 1 pair of plastic mallets, 1 pair of rubber mallets 

Optional Mallet/Stick Combos:
  • Vic Firth EP1 Educational Pack (suggested for 6th graders) – Includes: stick bag, drum sticks, mallets – plastic & rubber
  • Vic Firth Intermediate Educational Pack (7th-8th grade) – Includes: xylo/bell/vibe/marimba mallets – yarn/rubber/plastic/brass, timpani mallets (GREAT to have for transition into High School Band!)

Practice Makes Perfect!
(or gets us as close as possible...)

  • Practice sheets are due on Fridays ( through Google Classroom) and will account for 10% of a student's grade. 
  • 7th Grade Band students are required to practice a minimum of 120 minutes per week
  • Practice is most effective when it is spread throughout the week - i.e. 30 minute practice sessions 4 days a week 
  • Students are most successful when they have the right tools for practice including:  
    • A place set aside for practice
    • Music stand
    • A chair that will help them sit with good posture
    • Parental support and encouragement...and a listening ear! :)
